After many months of writing, recording, mixing, and mastering, I am so happy to have my new album "Wondrous Beauty" finished !!  Many thanks to the amazing group of musicians and recording engineers I had the pleasure of working with over this past year !! I'm so looking forward to the September 1 release by Trespass Music in Canada, the U.S., and Europe !!

But... in the meantime, it's summer festival time, with a wonderful line-up of shows here in B.C., all culminating with the Sunshine Music Festival in Powell River where Anna and I will open for the immensely talented CBC Searchlight Winner, Desiree Dawson !!  Hope to see you at one of our summer shows!  Check out the complete schedule here

Our Canada 150 performance in Sechelt will be dedicated to the people of the Shishalh Nation, and in particular, the survivors of the residential school system. In the spirit of reconciliation, we will move forward...

Come celebrate Canada's 150th birthday with Ken and Anna as they take to the main stage on Cowrie Street in downtown Sechelt, BC to perform a 30 minute set of both original tunes and classic Canadiana. Also performing are local favourites David Jones, Charlotte Wrinch, and Steve & Luci.

WELL, IT'S BACK HOME TO B.C. TOMORROW... After a wonderful two week Ontario Tour. It was great to meet old friends, and make new ones, playing in Leamington, Kingsville, Oakville, and Durham !!  Thanks to everyone who joined us across the province to make our little tour a success !!

AND NOW... I'm back in my studio on the Sunshine Coast to continue working on the new album... WONDROUS BEAUTY. Things are a bit behind schedule, so the release date has been pushed back to September, but I want this to be my best record ever !!

Check out the cool album cover, thanks to the wonderful and inspiring photography of Libby Hunter

I am very pleased to announce my new partnerships with Michelle Fortier Publicity and Trespass Music!

For the past 12 years, Michelle has worked in almost every aspect of the music business.  Her clients include the Red Dirt Skinners, Linda McRae (from Spirit of the West), and Loretta Hagen. I am thrilled to have Michelle as my publicist for North America!

Michelle also runs Trespass Music with long time associate Larry Ahearn (who has worked with just about everyone in the biz). I am very happy to announce that Trespass Music will be releasing my new album to radio in North America this summer!

I love working on new albums!! From the writing and arranging to the technical grind of recording, mixing, and mastering, I never cease to be amazed at how the music I hear in my mind, heart, and soul can be made manifest via a complex set of interactions between other musicians, recording engineers, and gear with more buttons and knobs than I am familiar with.

After the success of "The Great Unknown" and the busy tour schedule which followed, I was determined to "take a break" from performing and seek the creative womb of solitude required to stimulate the creative process. Although the reality of paying bills, and attending to the necessary business of life often dictated another course of action, I have been fortunate to find the time to birth and nurture another another musical project along.

Working with members of Gypsy Starfish back in Ontario, and others here on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, the new album is gradually taking shape and  scheduled for North American release by Trespass Music on July 1.  Stay tuned for details !!

Since 1974, Colin MacDonald has hosted one of the U.K.'s quintessential folk music programs. Thank you Colin for keeping the spirit of folk music alive all these years. And thank you for your continuing support of my music.

FOLKAL POINT – musical alternatives sans frontieres from folk to rock with myriad cute other stuff slipped in along the way – offers innovative artistry to discerning listeners around the world. This innovative radio programme’s stripped-down format, quixotic, informed, an unbiased spotlight on originality and creativity, steadfastly spurns here-today-gone-tomorrow fads, and just as resolutely ignores trivia. More than four decades since first airing on nascent Radio Clyde, this well-regarded, now widely syndicated two-hour weekly programme is still curated and presented globally by its self-effacing Scottish creator *. Always thoughtful, often quirky, sometimes provocative, enigmatic even, yet always fiercely resistant to barriers and contrived labels, Folkal Point remains laid back, arguably a tad eccentric but above all still a joyously maverick celebration for all on this fragile blue planet who value the glorious confluence of meaningful words and music in their lives.

* Colin MacDonald’s media career, at home in Scotland, London and abroad (from both ends of the Mediterranean to the South Atlantic), has also embraced extensive journalism plus TV and film work – both on and off camera. Now, some seven decades along the road least travelled, he’s “most at ease with a microphone and plenty of great music to share”.

Tried-and-tested since 1974, the Folkal Point format – still essentially folk to rock –  is quixotic, informed,  unbiased and treats music, musicians and listeners seriously.  Veteran Scots producer-presenter Colin MacDonald brings a lifetime’s media experience at home and abroad to bear.”It’s not what I say but what I play that matters,  so you should really listen carefully to the words”, he urges.

FOLKAL POINT is broadcast simultaneously (Thursdays, 10.00pm – midnight) on 105.2 FM in the Uists and Benbecula via An Reidio, across the Cowal Peninsula via Dunoon Community Radio – 97.4 FM and online, and Two Lochs Radio (Wester Ross) on 106 FM, 106.6 FM and online.

Folkal Point then timeshifts on Crystal FM 107.4 from Penicuik, serving south west Midlothian (Thursdays,11.00pm -1.00am) plus a 10.00am – midday Friday repeat, with a Friday midnight slot on DAB digital and online broadcaster Radio Telstar throughout Glasgow and surrounding areas, plus Saturdays (10.00pm-midnight) with HBS in Glasgow and Paisley. DCR offers a Sunday evening repeat from 8-10pm. The programme is also re-transmitted (globally!) online three times a week by Blues and Roots Radio from Canada.

Folkal Point is curated by Colin MacDonald in Scotland and realised at the Glasgow studios of HBS.

We are back home on B.C.'s Sunshine Coast after a whirlwind mini tour which stretched from Florida, through Texas, to California. Aptly dubbed "Deja Vu", we returned to  a number of venues we had played at several times before. From dodging tornados in Dallas and flooding and landslides in California to lost guitars and laptops, the tour was not without drama. In the end, however, all is well, and it was wonderful to connect with friends, fans, and family.  Thanks to a very generous audience in Estero, Florida, our 3rd annual house concert to benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank raised enough funds to distribute over $17,000 worth of food to those in need in Southwest Florida.  Thanks to food bank CEO, Keith Scoggins, and his partner Diane Sovern for generously hosting us once again. Returning to Avila Beach, California was also very special, with a lovely acoustic show at Morovino Winery's tasting room.  Thanks to David and Andrea Bradford for their generosity in hosting us in our former home town. A final highlight... fist bumping David Suzuki on his flight home from the Sundance Film Festival !!

With my 16 year old (adolescent?) album Time and Space now available for the first time on iTunes, it's nice to see it still has some relevance in today's chaotic world...  Thanks to Tom Arvidsson at Thirsty Boots in Sweden for the encouraging comments... (translated from the Swedish)

"It's dark out there ... It does not help much with full beam lights when driving home ... A little snow would light up properly ...
Then there are more dark things too: Trump (hardly needs to be explained?) ... Violence and attacks at Standing Rock, where the tribes are trying to save their drinking water ... There is too much 'hatred' in too many people's brain cells ...
Ken Dunn and his "Absence of Light" summarizes both the first and the second aspects ... Lovely harmonica that touches and a really neat little guitar solo in addition ...
A darkness shared is never as dark ...! Suddenly I feel a lot better ...
